Author to discuss dark side of requiring affordable housing

Edward Stringham, an educator and author, will discuss how affordable housing laws negatively impact residential production and the cost of housing at the June 15 membership dinner of the Home Builders Association of the Central Coast.
Stringham, a San Jose State University faculty member, will discuss a study he co-authored for the Reason Public Policy Institute. Titled "Housing Supply and Affordability," the study examined what happened in a housing market after local government passed inclusionary housing laws.
Inclusionary housing laws, such as one San Luis Obispo County will soon consider, require builders to include a certain percentage of affordable homes in each new development.
